Alien 3 (1992)

Review Date: October 26th, 2022

Hi everyone. Taking a break from Stephen King for now, & reviewing the other 2 Main Alien Movies. Also, Alien 3 (1992) is the 3rd Installment of the Alien Franchise that received mixed reviews. 3 times the suspense, 3 times the danger, & 3 times the terror as well. It still has some form of Action. Like more Action than Horror though. But let’s get down to the review for today.

CAST:

Charles S. Dutton - Leonard Dillon

Charles Dance - Jonathan Clemens

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!!

Taking place immediately after the events of Aliens (1986), an egg hatches aboard the spaceship Sulaco, releasing a facehugger. Then, a fire starts, & the ship's computer launches an escape pod containing Ellen Ripley, Newt, Hicks, & the damaged android Bishop; all 4 are in cryonic stasis. The pod crash-lands on a foundry & maximum-security correctional facility inhabited by male inmates with a genetic predisposition for antisocial behavior known as…

Fiorina 161 (Fury)

The inmates recover the crashed pod & its passengers. The same facehugger is seen approaching inmate Thomas Murphy's dog named, Spike.

Ripley is awakened by Clemens, the prison doctor, who informs her that she’s the only survivor. She is warned by the prison warden named, Harold Andrews, that her presence may have disruptive effects. Ripley insists that Clemens perform an autopsy on Newt, & that her and Hicks's bodies be subsequently burned, fearing in secrecy that Newt might be carrying an Alien embryo.

Despite protests from the warden, & his assistant named, Aaron, the autopsy is performed, & no embryo is found. Shortly after, the funeral proceeds in the foundry with the spiritual leader named, Dillon, who delivers a speech as the deceased are dropped into the furnace. Elsewhere in the prison, a quadrupedal alien bursts from Spike.

Ripley finds the damaged Bishop in the prison's garbage dump, & she gets cornered & threatened by 4 inmates. After being saved by Dillon, Ripley returns to the infirmary, & re-activates Bishop, who, before asking to be shut down permanently, confirms through scanning ship records that a Facehugger was onboard, & came with them to Fiorina. Growing to full size, the alien kills 3 inmates, Murphy, Boggs, & Rains, & returns outcast prisoner named, Golic to his previously psychopathic state.

Sometime after, Ripley informs Andrews of her previous Xenomorph encounters, & suggests everyone work together to hunt down & kill it, which gives off the 1st Alien vibes. Andrews doesn’t believe her story, & explains that even if she were telling the truth, the facility is without weapons, & that their only hope is the rescue ship being sent for Ripley by the Weyland-Yutani Corporation.

The Alien ambushes Ripley & Clemens in the prison infirmary, killing him, & corners Ripley. But the Alien spares her mysteriously, & retreats. Then, Ripley rushes to the cafeteria to warn the others. Andrews orders Aaron to take her back to the infirmary. But the warden himself is dragged into the vents, & killed by the creature.

Shortly after, Ripley rallies the inmates, & proposes that they pour flammable toxic waste into the ventilation system, & ignite it to flush out the monster. However, its intervention causes a premature explosion, & several inmates are killed. With Aaron's help, Ripley scans herself using the escape pod's medical equipment, & sees the embryo of an Alien Queen growing inside of her. She also discovers that Weyland-Yutani hopes to turn the aliens into biological weapons as well.

Concluding that the Alien will not kill her, because of the embryo that she carries. Ripley begs Dillon to kill her, & he agrees only if she helps the inmates kill the Alien 1st. They form a plan to lure the Alien into the foundry's molding facility, trap it through a series of closing doors, & drown it in molten lead.

The bait-&-chase plan results in the deaths of all the remaining prisoners except Dillon & Morse. But Dillon sacrifices himself to position the Alien towards the mold, as Morse pours the molten lead onto them. Even though the Alien’s covered in molten metal, it escapes the mold. Then, Ripley activates the fire sprinklers, blowing it apart from thermal shock.

The Weyland–Yutani team arrives, including commandos & a man who greatly resembles Bishop, who explains that he’s Bishop's creator. He tries to persuade Ripley to undergo surgery so that he can remove the Alien Queen embryo that’s inside of her, which he claims will be destroyed. Ripley refuses, & steps back onto a mobile platform, which Morse positions over the furnace.

The Weyland–Yutani team shoot Morse in the leg to stop him. Aaron strikes the Bishop doppelgänger with a wrench, & is shot dead by the commandos. Ignoring pleas to give them the embryo, Ripley throws herself into the furnace, holding the infant queen captive as it erupts from her. Then, the facilities are closed down, & Morse is the sole survivor. But is led away as Ripley's final logbook recording from the Nostromo plays.

THE END (for now)

Alien 3 (1992) is almost as good as the 1st 2. However, it is said to be the final Alien movie at the time of its release. But Alien: Resurrection (1997) is the last 1 of the Main Series. Unfortunately, it was sad to see Ellen Ripley sacrifice herself though.
