Aladdin (1992)

Review Date: April 9th, 2022

Now that the reviews for the Star Wars: Original Trilogy has been finished. It’s time for not only another Disney review. But an amazing Disney movie with the legendary comedian known as Robin Williams in it. So let’s get to the review.

Aladdin is a 1992 American animated, fantasy, musical, & a comedy film produced by Walt Disney Pictures. It is the 31st film from Walt Disney Animation Studios, & the 4th film produced during a period known as the Disney Renaissance. It was also both produced, & directed by John Musker & Ron Clements as well. Based on the Arabic folktale of the same name, the movie follows Aladdin, a street urchin who finds a magic lamp that contains a genie inside, & disguises himself as a wealthy prince, to make an attempt to impress the Sultan, & his daughter named Princess Jasmine.

CAST:

Scott Weinger - Aladdin

Robin Williams - Genie

Linda Larkin - Princess Jasmine

Jonathan Freeman - Jafar

Frank Welker - Abu

Gilbert Gottfried - Iago

Douglas Seale - The Sultan

WARNING: SPOILERS!!

Jafar, the Royal Vizier of the fictional city of Agrabah, seeks a lamp that’s hidden somewhere in the Cave of Wonders. But he is told that only 1 person’s worthy enough to enter: “The Diamond in the Rough”. Meanwhile, Princess Jasmine becomes upset that the law requires her to marry a prince, instead of marrying for love. She escapes the palace, & meets both Aladdin, & his pet monkey named Abu. The palace guards then capture Aladdin on Jafar’s orders.

Sometime after, Jafar releases both Aladdin & Abu, & brings them to a cave, ordering them to retrieve the lamp. In the cave, Aladdin finds a magical carpet inside, & obtains the lamp. But they end up being trapped in a cave, due to the dangers that have occured. As they are trapped, Aladdin rubs the lamp, & meets the Genie who lives inside the lamp. The Genie grants him 3 wishes. But there are rules such as…

1. He can’t kill anyone. 💀

2. He can’t make anyone fall in love with someone else. 💋

3. He can’t bring people back from the dead. It’s not a pretty picture, & that he doesn’t like doing it. 🧟‍♀️

Then, Aladdin tricks the Genie into freeing them all from the cave without using a wish. But in reality, he uses his 1st wish to become a prince, so that he can impress Princess Jasmine, & vows to use his 3rd, & final wish to free the Genie from servitude. Robin Williams was not only a great actor. But a fantastic comedian as well.

Sometime after, Aladdin as Prince Ali Ababwa arrives in Agrabah with a large host. But Jasmine becomes angry when he discusses her fate with her father, the Sultan, & Jafar without her. As a means of apologizing, Aladdin takes Princess Jasmine on a ride on the magical carpet. After Aladdin brings her home, the guards capture Aladdin once again, & they throw him into the sea. The Genie arrives & rescues Aladdin. But at the cost of his 2nd wish. Aladdin returns to the palace, & exposes Jafar’s evil plan.

Afraid that he will lose Jasmine if the truth is revealed, Aladdin refuses to free the Genie, Iago steals the lamp, Jafar becomes the Genie’s new master, & uses his 1st 2 wishes to…

1. Become a Sultan.

2. Become the most powerful sorcerer in the world.

Exposing Aladdin’s identity, & exiling him.

After escaping from a frozen wasteland, Jasmine tries to help Aladdin steal back the lamp. But Jafar notices, & overpowers them with his magic. During the battle, Jafar uses his 3rd, & final wish to…

BECOME A VERY POWERFUL GENIE

Now bound to his new lamp, Jafar & Iago end up getting trapped inside it, & the Genie throws the lamp into the desert, hoping to banish him to the Cave of Wonders.

With Agrabah returned to normal, Aladdin finally uses his 3rd, & final wish to free the Genie, & regain his royal title as Prince so that he can be with Princess Jasmine. Realizing Aladdin’s mobility, the Sultan changes the law so that Princess Jasmine will be allowed to marry whom she chooses. The Genie bids farewell to the group, & leaves Agrabah, while Aladdin & Jasmine start their new life together.

THE END

Aladdin is also 1 of my favorite Disney movies of all time. However, Robin Williams will be missed.

OVERALL: 10/10
